Katebwa Residents Panic As Heavy Rains wash away bridge

Tensions are mounting in Katebwa Sub County, Kabarole District when heavy rains washed away the bridge on River Nsongya blocking transport system in the area.
The resident showed fear,only Nsongya Bridge connects them to health centers and schools especially those living in the mountains of Rwenzori.
Most people are now relocating to Katebwa trading especially those living near the river. Despite all this tension leaders have neglected the residents and no action has been taken in re constructing the bridge.
Kogere Rechel a partner in service deliver program in the areas of Kabarole working with Tooro development net work says that expectant mothers, school going children leave in panic when it rains fearing that the temporally structure may be washed away by the heavy rains.
“I call upon government and Kabarole District Local government to quicken the process of directing the river so that water can go back to its original course and also put up a strong bridge “says Kogere
Kalinguza William lc1Mabira Zone Katebwa sub county noted that some times the river has been showing signs of possible flooding and is confident that as the rains have now resumed, the river will flood again and destroy people’s property.
He said, the government should speed up the process of repairing bridges and roads that were destroyed during the October heavy rains.
“Most of the roads and the bridges that were washed away by the floods have not yet been worked upon and our people are using make-shift bridges which they erected themselves,” says Kalinguza
People while seeking to the media revealed that despite the bridge has been washed away no action has been so far taken.
She said the bridge was washed away by the heavy floods of River Nsongya that were caused by heavy rains early this year.

The bridge connects the villages of people living in the mountainous areas of Rwenzori and other areas in Katebwa.
This road has been helping locals to access medical services, school among others and this has left people cut off from services and this has prompted local residents to const a temporally bridge.
