Mayor attacks planner over illegal building plans.

The mayor Fort Portal Municipality Edison Asaaba Ruyonga has come out attacking the municipal physical planner for allegedly approving the building plans for residents in road reserves.
He explains that the municipality is to kickstart the grading and widening of the roads using the money under the Uganda support to municipal infrastructure development USMID project that will lead several buildings in road reserves demolished.
Adressing the leaders and residents of Bukwali in East Division Fort Portal Municipality at the launching of the construction of Bukwali-Kitumba road,Mayor Ruyonga shocked the people when he revealed that many buildings will be demolished during the grading and widening of the road because they were build in road reservs.
He accused the physical planner Maddam Olivia Bahwayo for having offered approved building plans to people to build in the road reserves. The mayor explains that it requires 17 meters wide for ones building to survive the demolition during running and widening of the roads.
He however said that the people whose building will be demolished will not be compensated by the government despite being in position of the approved plans because they were in wrong to erect buildings in road reserves.
The mayor who said that the project will leave many residents shading tears and in huge loses strongly wars technocrats  against offering services with the aim of being impressed but in the long run it affects service delivery and development of the municipality.
The physical planner couldn’t be reached for her comment as to why she is doing such a mess while she was aware of the law.
But Habert Mugisa the South Division chairperson said the divisions can’t accept to lose the funding because of illegally planed structures, he however revealed that the authorities have embarked on the sensitization mission to enable the loans get prepared for such developments.
